Good morning from a wet and windy Foxford. My apologies for disappearing last week, I do have a sick cert. As a result of storm Éowyn we had some fire wood to chop. During this operation we learned about “The irresistible force paradox.” In short its to do with two unstoppable forces meeting. In this case it was the Axe and an extraordinarily tough piece of timber. The fool that swung the axe instantly learned what happens. Yes, it was like an electric shock coupled with an unmerciful jerk after which I instantly knew I had damaged my lower back. It was the following morning that I realised just how much damage I had done, I couldn’t move and had to crawl out of bed. The good doctors gave me a cocktail of Valium, Pain Killers, and anti-inflammatory tablets. By Wednesday night I was seeing cats walking across the bedroom ceiling so to write a fishing blog would not have been a good idea.
Not surprisingly there’s no reports of any salmon from the Moy yet. Although water levels have been nice people are still recovering from the storm and damage it done, fishing has not been a priority for most. Earlier this week water levels were good and the river was coming into nice condition. The rain in the last two days has changed that and last nights rain was the icing on the cake. The river is rising fast now 1.8m at Ballylahan bridge it will probably rise another meter today. I am seeing reports from the UK where they seem to be catching Springers. This makes me optimistic for the season ahead (That could also be the Valium ). Mid-March it will kick off here and although we have been delayed in our pre-season preparation, we will be ready for a busy season. At the moment, we are only open on Fridays but that will soon change.
Club AGM
Our little angling club had the AGM on Monday night. A very well attended meeting and lots of positive vibes. I say it regularly; clubs are very important in our sport and you should do as much as possible to support and be part of Your local club. P.J and I have been fortunate this winter and have done some fishing with the Ballinasloe angling club. Its amazing to see 30+ anglers heading off for a friendly competition on a Sunday in winter. Most of these competitions are for cups in memory of past members or local families that were involved in angling. The cups are revered among the members and the pride of wining one of them is very evident but like our own club, it does not really matter whether you win or not, it’s the taking part that counts.
Here’s a little video of my two year old Grandson Rian which I suppose I should not laugh at (I blame the parents) but it is funny. From next week on we will return to the daily reports. Have a good weekend.
