The river this morning, starting to look good

Good morning from a bright, dry and beautiful Foxford. It looks like the weather has taken a turn for the better. Already looking nice further up stream (0.8m at Balllylahan bridge) if we get a few days like this the river will be in good order all over. I would expect to hear of a Salmon from Balllina in the next few days. Even though the weather last weekend was a disaster with a strong cold breeze and icy showers, we did get reports of one salmon taken at Pontoon bridge and one from the Moy upstream of Foxford. Things are slowly starting to pick up and there’s even a bit of fly life starting. I spotted a nice hatch of duck fly on Wednesday afternoon.

A good wetfly pattern when the trout are feeding on Duck fly

P.j and I had our first outing for trout yesterday. We did not catch anything but we did have a beautiful walk in the mountains and we have the blue sky and sun to blame for the lack of fish. It was a stunning day to be out and about. As we all know there’s more to fishing than catching fish. It will not be long before we are back at it again, once the heart rate slows down

With the river coming into nice condition we would expect to start seeing more anglers on the water in the coming weeks. Easter is just around the corner and I have a feeling it will be the real kick off in the Foxford area. From next week I will start back to the daily reports, they are helpful for anyone trying to plan a trip. Thanks to everyone for following the blog during the winter. I’m told by those who know more than me that traffic through the website has been very good and we are performing very well. Time for work!!
