An overcast and damp morning in Foxford. It would appear that we have had some reasonably substantial rainfall. I was fishing until after midnight and it was getting heavy at that stage and its still coming down, although not very heavy now. We have a measuring gauge at the shop and ill get a better idea in a little while as to what has fallen. The river is now at 0.28m at Ballylahan bridge and starting to creep up. Whatever rain has fallen will not have an effect until late this evening. There is more rain forecast for tomorrow. With the prospects of a decent rise in levels and some good fishing we have decided that to accommodate our customers we will open the shop on Monday morning from 8am to 10 am. I will update this around 8am (when i’m awake. Note to self, stop staying out half the night fishing! )
Update at 07.30 : We have measured approx 12mm of rain overnight. Not as much as I would have liked. Looking at the Met Eireann rainfall radar there seems to have been a few heavy clumps of rain within the catchment so I remain somewhat hopeful of a rise in levels by this evening. For a proper flood we do need more rain. I will update later today
Update at 15.15: The river is now rising in Foxford. Currently at 0.58m at Ballylahan it will most likely peak at the 1m mark which will send a nice drop of fresh water down. I would expect it to colour up later this evening and be back in good condition by morning.
