Blue sky’s and sunshine today in Foxford. I have no doubt that by lunchtime that will have changed but for now its absolutely beautiful, enjoy. Fishing is improving and with water conditions getting better each day this should continue as we slip into September and the last month of the season. Not so many anglers around over the weekend but we heard of a reasonable number of fish taken. Spinning was the best method and prawn is also working. The river is now at 0.7m at Ballylahan bridge, for any fly fishermen waiting to have a go I would say East Mayo Anglers today will be well worth a visit. Over the past few mornings I have mentioned the arrival of a new Lure from Mr Rolla, Today is the day.

Introducing the Rolla “Crystal Hot Spot”

Developed during what has been one of the wettest summers for many years when the River has been “Out of order” for normal spinners. The Hot Spot has proven to be a worthy asset in high, peat stained water. I spent a while yesterday discussing the New creation with Thierry Colum (Mr. Rolla). Thierry astounded me with his knowledge of the marine environment and the habits of not only Salmon but many other fish and marine creatures such as plankton and Krill, the deep ocean and bio luminescence. As you will hear from the video  (even if you don’t understand French) Thierry is passionate about angling and the Lures he produces. When faced with the difficulty of constant high and coloured water he applied his knowledge to create a lure that evokes a latent natural instinct in several species of fish. This is achieved through the careful blending of colour, balance and movement . It’s not often that an angler of the caliber of Thierry gets excited by a New lure but I could sense the excitement as he spoke about it. Have a look at this short video and you will get an idea of what im talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKRSUV7esb

All credit for the video Must go to the cameraman, that water is cold and although the video is short he did have to dive more than once, Well done P.J .
