On this day in 1887 the telescopic fishing rod was invented, I didn’t know that either, just heard it on the radio. A dry morning with a cool ESE breeze in Foxford. I had a walk along the river earlier and it is starting to come into slightly better condition, it is now at 0.85m at Ballylahan bridge.
Still a big flow coming from the Loughs but by now there should be a fish or two entering the system and if the dry weather continues it will not be long before we hear of the first salmon of the season. Next weekend is St. Patricks day and there will be a few anglers on the river, it will be interesting to see if anything is caught, my money is on yes.
The Foxford St. Patricks day parade is being held on Saturday the 16th (Just in case you want to come to it), our club is trying to organise some form of a group to take part. Its difficult to motivate anglers to do these things. If we said it was a day fishing, they would kill to be there, mention walking through the town dressed in a Leprechaun suit and they disappear. We will get it sorted before the day; I hope.
We ourselves have been busy sorting new stock and moving things around, all the supermarkets do it regularly to confuse their customers and make them buy more. We said we would give it a try but the biggest problem is we have confused ourselves and we don’t know where anything is. By May we will have figured it out.
From next weekend our business hours will be a little more regular and we will be reverting to the daily updates here. Thanks everyone for following this little blog throughout the winter. I hope you found something interesting. It is a nice way to keep in touch with each other, even if we did have to turn off the comments after repeated hacking attempts. The tech guys are working on another line of defense so we will soon be able to turn comments back on.
