Good morning from a slippery Foxford, I’m a little bit late today. I got the job of bringing my three year old grandson to play school. Three year olds have less fear and can walk faster than 50+ year olds on ice.

I said last week that I hoped to get out fishing, well apart from a quick visit to a river for a Pike session on Thursday, it did not happen. The week was not nice and we had a mixture of hail, sleet, and frost. That’s winter though and we have to take what’s thrown at us.
We did manage to visit a few spawning locations and I am happy to report signs of recent spawning and active fish. Hope for the future. Still no news of a fresh salmon from the Drowse, it is probably getting low now. The Moy is well down as are the Loughs. I sometimes wonder where the water goes. Its only a few weeks ago that everywhere was flooded.
Its nearly time to start thinking about the season ahead and we will soon be blowing the cobwebs off our Salmon gear. I do hope you took time to sort it all out after the season ended but I know most did not 😒. It’s not too late and a drop of oil and grease on the moving parts of your favourite reel will extend the life and with the way prices are going, It’s well worth doing. Here’s a link to a little video I done a few years ago. It’s not brilliant but if you want to service a reel it may help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4lNSxt_G2U
I noticed last year that there was a steep hike in prices, well this year is as bad. The price of fishing equipment is rising rapidly. I have a good bit of experience and I can tell you that its not because the quality is improving. It’s more to do with the way the world is going at the moment. While world politics is out of my control, I can say that when it comes to buying tackle, we are on the ball and I’m happy enough that we will offer prices that match the best in the coming season. If Mr Trump and Mr Putin want to sort things out I’d recommend a day together in the boat on Lough Conn, Ill boat for them.
Once again, im hoping to get out fishing over the weekend and will hopefully have some fishy news next week.
