Friday 02/01/2026 Belated Happy Christmas and New Year

New Years day snowdrops

Good morning from a cool but nice Foxford. Happy Christmas and New year. For some reason I missed the opportunity to wish you both until now. Well, Christmas was because I was in the normal frenzy trying to buy a few presents and New year because it fell mid week. Anyway, we are now back on track and facing into a new year, 2026. The Minister, his department, IFI or whoever is running the whole mess has decided to hold back on the proposed restriction to Salmon angling which we spoke about a few weeks ago. This is a paragraph from the IFI website

“Salmon Anglers:

Open, closed and catch and release rivers, quotas and bye laws remain the same as in 2025 while the Department considers the views expressed in the Public Consultation as part of the process to finalise the Regulations, which is expected to be completed in the New Year.

Further updates will be published on this this website in due course.”

I really hope that they do consider the views expressed and take time to involve all the stakeholders in meaningful debate.

Rossnowlagh Beach with the Killybegs Mariners Dec 28th

Apart from a couple of enjoyable but not so productive beach sessions we have not done much fishing recently. Over the past couple of weeks the weather has been nice and water levels have fallen considerably. I am hopeful that we will now get an opportunity to get out after a few Pike. Hopefully I will have some more interesting angling news to report soon. Hers a few pics from the Christmas period
